Classic Pieces For Everyday

January 27, 2017

Lately, I've been really wanting to step up my wardrobe game and I think it's because of how well all my fellow fashion merch ladies dress at school. Its has definitely been inspiring me. And I also have been going through Pinterest and realizing that all you need to have awesome outfits are key and essential pieces. I recently did an article on defining your style that you can read here. I'll be talking further about my own personal style and what I love to wear next week so stay tuned for that post!

As for this outfit, I really wanted to focus on the trousers as being the main piece. I have not been enjoying wearing jeans lately and I think it's because I don't own that perfect pair. I need to go on the hunt for some soon so if you have suggestions please comment below!

I paired these babies with a grey off the shoulder sweater because I feel that adding a knit piece to trousers dresses it down a bit which is great for classes. I also love the look of black slip on shoes- I need myself a pair! For accessories I added a gorgeous suede handbag and some classic black sunglasses, I added a pop of color with the army green over sized blazer.

Happy Weekend!

Staying Organized for the New Year

January 19, 2017

This is it guys! We're officially already into the third week of the new year.. doesn't time fly? Have you been sticking to your resolutions and goals? (If not... this is a sign that you should!)
I feel like around this time of the month is when everyone's optimism, goals, and resolutions slowly start to dwindle away and they start getting back into their old habits and routines. This year I can honestly say that I've stepped up my game as far as my goals and resolutions go. I've been sticking to eating clean, being organized and managing my time. As soon as I got back to my dorm, I got rid of any clutter, excessive garbage and unnecessary bullsh*t that was taking up my drawer & organizational spaces. I've also been using my planner and writing down my to do's every day, and have been keeping my space clean. So today, I have just a couple of tips on how to keep up with being organized.

1. Write it out: I don't know about you, but I'm definitely a pen and paper kind of gal. I love writing things down so much more than using any sort of scheduling or planning on my phone or computer. So for me, I like to start off by writing a little to do or check list every morning of goals that I want to accomplish that day. I will normally have at least one or two written in already from the previous days's unaccomplished tasks or just tasks that I already know I need to get done that day. Then I'll get to it! It's super easy because I just have my most important tasks all written out for me in one spot (numbered and prioritized). My favorite app that I can tolerate for planning and lists is called Todoist.
I also like to write down important dates and events (as soon as I find out about them) in a monthly view calendar. I use this planner and am in love with it because it has every thing I need to keep organized.
2. Keep your space clean: I know this is a lot easier said than done, but doing this seriously helps me stay on top of things. I am super busy with classes and work and hanging out with my boyfriend so I am always on the go and last semester I'd just run in my room and drop stuff off, change, then head back out so I rarely ever had time to tidy up my area and put things away. This would lead to a cluttered mess and unorganized space and when I came back from work all I'd want to do was lay in my bed and not think about the mess that I had to clean which lead to even more of a mess.
So this semester, I've been staying on top of things as soon as they happen. As soon as I get back home from work, I instantly will put my clothes away or in the laundry basket. As soon as I do some homework and take folders out I'll put them away once I'm done so that the mess diminishes and doesn't pile up.
3. Set specific check in dates: This is all under your own preferences, but have a certain time of the month, week, or day where you check in on your goals and crunch down on your personal numbers. Are you keeping up with all of your tasks? What could you be doing that might help you achieve these goals? If there is one thing I learned since last semester, it's that there is always a way to make things work in your favor- you just need to actually set forth and make those changes.
4. Get rid of clutter. If you're noticing your things are getting all jumbled together and you're unable to easily access important things like certain papers or your drawers are getting filled up- then it's time to RID all of this. It's just unneeded stuff taking up valuable storage space. For me, I like to go by the "three week rule" when it comes to things in or around my desk area. If I haven't touched it in more than three weeks, into the garbage it goes! Obviously, if it's important documents like health, insurance, bills then you can keep those in a separate organized area; but I'm talkin like recipts with coupons that have expired, junk mail, papers that you've written on, stuff like that. I also have the 1 year rule for clothes: if I haven't worn it in over a year it's getting tossed.
5. Invest in organizational supplies: My favorite part about Walmart, CVS, and Target? The office supplies section. I'll be running into CVS for some gum and walk by the office supplies section and find myself strolling through the aisle looking at every product and thinking "I utterly need this in my life." I'm not sure why, but ever since I was little (and I saw the Buxton organizer ad come up on T.V) I loved organizing my things. These can really help you separate your junk and your important things. Look below for specific products that'll help! I'd say my number two products that I like to use is a file organizer and colored pens, markers and highlighters.

Have a lovely day!

A Day Off Outfit

January 13, 2017

Who's ready for a day off? I know I am, and with MLK Jr day coming up, I've linked some amazing cozy pieces for you to lounge around in. If you've read my last post about 6 amazing pieces to buy at Ann Taylor, I mentioned that lace up sweaters are super in right now; and they're such a stylish way to stay comfortable!
Leggings- they can sometimes be a pretty big investment but always they're totally worth it for the quality. I can admit, I'm not often one to wear leggings much anymore.. but I have been missing it. I really want to buy a nice pair from lululemon or Athleta because I hear so many amazing things about them!
I'm not sure why, but for some reason I don't own any kind of Ugg boot! Living in a New England climate, I honestly should have at least one pair! They're so easy to slip on when I just need to run out of the house for a quick errand.

What are some of your favorite lounge pieces? Let me know in the comments below :)

Camel Sweater

January 11, 2017

The joys of thrifting! I went to Goodwill the other day and had some amazing finds, including this camel sweater that is super cozy and so in right now with the tie details! I paired it with my black skinnies and my black leather booties from Ann Taylor (that now come in suede!)

I'm going to be moving back to the city soon to start my second semester of college... I'm hoping that it will be less stressful than my first semester was! I had so many things that I was doing all at once. I was trying to change jobs so I was constantly on interviews- like seriously from October till December I was doing interviews and was trying to find the right place for me. But now I've made my decision and have two steady jobs that hopefully won't be too much! On top of that however, I will be tutoring for the Buying + Allocation students which I'm pretty excited about!

I am really honestly thrilled to be back in the city, I just wish it was an apartment that I was going back to instead of a dorm! Following up from my resolutions post, I am definitely going to try to stick to my word and stay organized and efficient. I think a lot of it is going to start with my first week back at school- I need to be on top of my sh*t as soon as I get back so that I create a nice and easy transition. I feel like once you start slipping, it becomes a downward spiral and you start to just become unorganized and stressed in a lot of different aspects- well at least for me anyways!

6 Pieces You Need from Ann Taylor Right Now

January 9, 2017

Don't you just love it when your favorite retailer brings in a new collection?
Working at Ann Taylor is seriously so much fun, and ever since working my first shift since being back for winter break I've been so thankful to have such an amazing job. I am surrounded by the most amazing coworkers and I love what I do. The main focus of my job is the client and helping her to have an elevated shopping experience.
The best part? My coworkers and managers are all on the same page. We all work together each shift and we all sort of get it. My manager is hands down the best manager I've ever worked with. She is so organized, involved, and passionate about working at Ann Taylor. Her main goal is always putting the client first. She cares so much about their experience in our store and I believe that's why our store is so successful! She sets an example for the rest of our team and we all follow her footsteps. There's nothing better than having a manager that cares about the clients as well as the fashion aspect of it. And when they do the same kind of work that you do, it feels like we are all on the same level and there is no competition.
Throwing it back to high school when I worked at a store in the mall.. I won't name any names but it was one of the most unorganized, chaotic jobs I've ever dealt with. And it all comes from the fact that my manager hated her job, was miserable to customers, and was unorganized and inefficient.
So in honor of  Ann Taylor and our amazing team, I've linked some of my favorite pieces that you just have to have.
(from left to right)
  1. The lace up tunic: Lace up tops are HUGE right now. This one comes in white, navy and coral.
  2. The fluted boatneck top: This lil baby has a little bell to the sleeves which gives such a sophisticated vibe. You can dress up this top with a nice pair of pants or dress it down in the summer time with some boyfriend shorts.
  3. Plaid blanket scarf: If you get the chance to pop into an AT store... give this baby a try.. you will NOT be disappointed with how cozy and warm it is. Also a huge winter essential.
  4. Flare sailor pants: Flare pants? Sailor pant style? White? I'm in!!
  5. Wool cashmere lace up sweater: This sweater is gorgeous and I love the pale heather grey color it comes in! Not to mention it'll keep you nice and toasty in this brutal weather we're having.
  6. Ruffle collar blouse: This blouse is super classy and unique, with ruffles around the neck and slight pleating throughout. You'll stand out among the others in your office!

Have a lovely Monday! What are your favorite retailers that make you do a happy dance when they come out with a new collection? Let me know in the comments :)

5 Ways To Make Your Home Feminine Chic

January 6, 2017

Don't you just love the look of feminine-chic home decor? I think it's stunning. Here are 5 easy ways to incorporate feminine-chic home decor into your home!

  1. Add contrasting colors. Black and whites are the perfect color scheme to achieve the feminine chic vibe, as well as neutrals like beige, grey & cream. Incorporate these colors in large and small details like a dark colored sofa with light colored pillows, a dark end table with gold accents and a lighter colored lamp.
  2. Mix textures. Mixing textures is a great way to add some femininity into your home, Simply throw a faux fur pillow cover over your old pillows like this one that I just recently got from Amazon and I love! You can also add in some textures by changing up your throw blankets from soft ones to knits and adding some textured place mats to tables.
  3. Powerful images. Incorporate the feminine chic theme by hanging up gorgeous and powerful images in frames of all kinds. The more variety you have the better it will look! Etsy has a wonderful selection of digital prints that are super affordable.
  4. Metallic photo frames. Feminine chic homes look amazing when there is a whole bunch of different kinds of photo frames like gold, silver, white, black & wooden.
  5. Be a merchandiser. Within any kind of display piece whether it be a bookcase, a shelving unit, an end table, a coffee table, etc; do your best to incorporate different elements to create a visually appealing and feminine-chic aesthetic. Bring in crystals, books, candles, trays, mirrors and more to get a fashion forward feel. Balance heights like tall decor pieces with short ones, plants and wood, and illuminating pieces with dark ones.

Two Thousand Sixteen

January 4, 2017

I'm not sure why... but it has taken me this long to realize that I haven't even reflected back on the year that has just passed. It might've been because I was away with my boyfriend & his family and we were traveling on New Years Day, but nonetheless.. it is always essential to take a moment to breathe, relax, and ponder all that was accomplished.

White Mountains

January 3, 2017

This past week I went up to the White Mountains with Mike and his family. It was seriously such a fun trip! I did a lot that I thought I'd never do. Like for one; I went cross country skiing- never in a million years did I ever think I'd even put a foot in a ski! I also hiked up a really challenging trail in the snow. Needless to say, it was an amazing trip that I'll remember forever! If you ever get the opportunity to travel to the east coast, the NH mountains will never disappoint!
